Parolee Found Asleep In Car With Three Jars of Cannabis: Cops

ALSIP, IL -- A Chicago man asleep in traffic was arrested after police found three glass jars of cannabis in his car, prosecutors said. Andrew Taylor, 29, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on felony charges of manufacture/delivery of cannabis and possession of controlled substance. Taylor is currently on parole.

Around 3:30 a.m. April 22, Alsip police officers went to investigate a report of a person asleep in a vehicle, later identified as Taylor, in the 4700 block of 127th Street. The prosecutor said the vehicle was in the opposite lane of traffic with its wheels pressed against the curb. Police woke Taylor up. Officers also found Taylor in possession of seven Alprazolam, the prosecutor said. Taylor allegedly admitted to selling cannabis to make a few dollars.

“He’s not a danger to the community,” the assistant public defender told the judge.

“I disagree with that,” Felice said. “He’s a little bit of a danger. He just got out on parole. He knows the consequences.”

Taylor was convicted of forgery and possession of methamphetamine in 2016 and sentenced to 42 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was paroled last September with a projected release date of 2019.

Bail was set at $200,000. Taylor is due back in court May 14 in Bridgeview.
