Serial Robber Tied To New Year's Eve Alsip Subway Robbery: Cops

The recent parolee has been linked to robberies in Alsip, Blue Island, Calumet Park and Bellwood.

ALSIP, IL -- An alleged serial robber has been charged the New Year’s Eve stickup of an Alsip Subway as well as other businesses throughout the south suburbs. Kahleed Johnson, 21, whose last known address is in Markham, is facing four counts of armed robbery. Police say Johnson has a history of violent crime and was paroled in September after serving time for aggravated robbery.

Around 4:30 p.m. Dec. 31, Alsip police responded to a call of an armed robbery in the Subway restaurant at 122nd Street and Pulaski Road. The purported robber had already fled the store in a maroon vehicle before the 911 call had been placed. Witnesses told police that a man entered the restaurant, displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the cashier. No one was injured in the incident.

A few days later on Jan. 2, Alsip police learned that a suspect was in custody at the Calumet City Police Department for a different robbery in that town. Investigations were able to tie Johnson to the Alsip Subway robbery, as well as others in Blue Island, Calumet Park and Bellwood, police said. The weapon and vehicle recovered by Calumet City police were the same used in the Alsip Subway robbery.
