Services Set For Former Alsip Resident Gerda Eva (Heyden) Pinkus

Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Gerda Pinkus on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Lack and Sons Funeral Home in Hickory Hills.

ALSIP, IL — Former Alsip resident Gerda Eva (Heyden) Pinkus passed away peacefully from natural causes in Cape Coral, Florida on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Gerda had lived in Alsip for more than three decades.

Gerda was born on July 13, 1928 in Buddenhagen, Germany and was born of Ernst Heyden and Mathilda (Pluciak) Heyden. She married Pranas (Frank) Pinkus and had 3 children.
Gerda came to America in September 1956 and started her work in the Prudential building downtown, the tallest building in Chicago at the time and later retired from Nabisco after 30-plus years of service.

Her favorite pastimes were crocheting and knitting gorgeous afghans, sweaters, doily tablecloths, hats/scarves as well as other great creations involving embroidery. Gerda played her favorite card game ‘Spite and Malice’ most days all the way to the end. She like word search puzzles as well.

Gerda is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Vera Pinkus, son Alfonse Pinkus and daughter Linda (Pinkus) Long; her husband, James, as well as grandchildren Vince Pinkus, Denise Holden, Donna Pinkus, Beatrice Pinkus-Vobroucek, Chuck Ward IV, Monica Pinkus, Heidi Sirevicius, Erica Pinkus, Carol Ann Richardson, as well as great grandchildren Kyle Pinkus, Christina Fricke, BJ Fricke, Shannon Fricke, Madison Fricke, Charles Ward V, Jackson Ward, Emmett Ward, Josalyn Ward and Cypress Murillo.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with during her 91 years. Friends, family and others whose lives Gerda has touched are invited to share in her remembrance on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. at Lack and Sons Funeral Home, 9236 S. Roberts Road, Hickory Hills.
