ALSIP, IL — Services are set for James “Jim” T. McGreal, a second-generation police officer serving the Alsip community. McGreal died Jan. 22 of early onset Alzheimer’s disease. He was 65.
Born June 26, 1958 in Chicago to James P. McGreal, a Chicago police officer, and Marilyn McGreal (Behnke) McGreal followed in his policeman father’s footsteps into law enforcement, where McGreal served the Alsip Police Department from 1981 to 2008.
During his law enforcement career, McGreal exemplified the values of duty, honor, and selflessness in his work. When not serving his community as a police officer, he filled his time coaching his sons’ sports teams, leading Cub Scouts, participating in the Marist Fathers’ Club, and serving as president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 31.
