Shooting At Blue Island Bar Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Critically Injured

Blue Island police think shooting on the patio at The Forge may have started from a physical altercation between patrons.

BLUE ISLAND, IL — A 33-year-old woman was killed by gunfire at a Blue Island bar early Sunday morning, in what investigators believe may have evolved from a physical altercation between bar patrons.

Around 1 a.m., officers were called to the Forge Bar and Grill, 3400 W. 127th St. When police arrived, two people were down in the patio area of the bar. A man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. A woman, Bethany Meus, of Chicago, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are looking into a possible physical confrontation that took place between the patrons, which was followed by gunfire.

Chief Geoffrey Farr, of the Blue Island Police Department, said in a written statement that the shooting appears to be a possible incident and there is no threat to the community. The shooting is currently under investigation by Blue Island police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.
