Shoplifter Walks Out Of Menards With Cart Full of Stuff: Police

Prosecutor said man waited for a customer to come through the store entry gate, then walked out reverse with cart full of stuff.

CRESTWOOD, IL -- Crestwood police arrested a Lynwood man after he allegedly swiped a cart full of merchandise from Menards. Gordon Bolden, 56, appeared before Cook County Judge Michael Kane on a charge of retail theft.

According to the charges, Bolden went to the Menards store at 4701 W Cal Sag Rd., in Cestwood on Jan. 27, where filled a cart with a heater and assorted hygiene products, laundry detergent garbage bags. The prosecutor said Bolden parked the cart by the entry way. When a customer entered the store through an entry gate, Bolden allegedly pushed the cart out of the store. He was confronted outside by loss-prevention officers.

The prosecutor said that Bolden had a lengthy rap sheet, including ten felony convictions for possession of a controlled substance and retail theft. He also had convictions from the early 1990s and 1980s for robbery and vehicular invasion.

The assistant public defender said Bolden worked part-time as a janitor and landscaper. He said Bolden’s felony background was “quite distant in time.” He requested that an I-bond for his client.

The judge set bail at $50,000. Bolden is due back in court Feb. 13.
