Police Reportedly Shoot At Suspects' Vehicle US Bank Robbery: Reports

The FBI confirmed that the US Bank branch at 119th and Western was robbed. Witnesses say police shot at the suspects' fleeing vehicle.

BLUE ISLAND, IL — Gunshots were reportedly fired at suspects fleeing a bank robbery Wednesday morning at the US Bank branch at 119th Street and Western Avenue in Blue Island. No one is in custody.

The FBI Chicago Field Office confirmed to Patch that local police and federal agents are investigating a bank robbery at the US Bank branch, 11960 S. Western Ave., Blue Island.

The bank robbery happened moments after the branch opened at 9 a.m.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the suspect or suspects fled in a vehicle. Police or a security officer reportedly shot at the suspect’s vehicle as it was fleeing, but the suspects were able to evade arrest.

A citizen filming the scene said an off-duty police officer working security at the bank “lit the car up.” It is unclear if anyone in the vehicle was hit. Hospitals are required to report any self-transported gunshot victims that arrive in their respective emergency rooms.
