2 Killed In Car Crash Near Airport In Wheeling

The Wednesday morning accident, involving two vehicles, occurred near the Chicago Executive Airport grounds.

WHEELING, IL — Two people were killed in a two-vehicle car crash Wednesday morning in Wheeling. The accident happened at the intersection of Wolf Road and Messner Drive, near the Chicago Executive Airport, according to the Wheeling Police Department.

Police released the names of the deceased Wednesday evening — David A. Sosa, 26, of Chicago; Jose Urbano, 39, of Prospect Heights. A 21-year-old Prospect Heights man was injured in the crash.

According to police, a box truck traveling eastbound on Messner Drive struck a northbound SUV at around 7:30 a.m. after failing to stop at the stop-sign of Messner Drive at Wolf Road. The box truck entered the intersection and struck the SUV with such force that both vehicles left the roadway, crashing through a fence and finally resting on a grass area on the west side of the Chicago Executive Airport.

After the vehicles collided, the passenger of the box truck was ejected and was found unresponsive on the nearby pavement of a taxiway. He was later transported to the medical examiner to be pronounced dead. The driver of the box truck sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to the trauma center at Luther General Hospital in Park Ridge. The driver of the other vehicle succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased.

Traffic was being rerouted as the incident was being investigated by the Northwest Suburban Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit. Wolf Road was closed in both directions from Palatine Road (south) to Hintz Road (North).
