20 Firefighters Battle Kitchen Blaze: Palatine FD

The Sunday night fire in the kitchen began on a stovetop and spread to the surrounding cabinets.

PALATINE, IL — A fire that started on a stovetop in an apartment kitchen, and then quickly spread to the surrounding cabinets, brought out 20 firefighters Sunday night in Palatine. Officials said no one was injured and the residents in the unit had evacuated the building prior to the arrival of the Palatine Fire Department.

The fire remains under investigation and damage estimates are not available at this time.

At 11:10 p.m., firefighters responded to the apartment fire in the 400 block of W. Palatine Road. The initial crew on the scene found moderate smoke coming from the apartment. As firefighters battled the blaze, Palatine police alerted and evacuated the other residents in the building.

Fire damage was contained to the kitchen, and the fire was declared under control by 11:20 p.m. Firefighting crews performed overhaul to expose any hidden fire and ensure no further fire spread.

In all, 20 firefighters fought the fire, staffing three engines, one ladder truck, one rescue squad, and three ambulances, which responded to the scene along with one command officer. Palatine police assisted at the scene with evacuation, traffic, and crowd control.
