2nd Arrest Made In Jewelry Store Robbery: Arlington Heights PD
Thieves ransacked display cases at a downtown jewelry store in January 2023.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Following an investigation into a smash-and-go armed robbery that occurred in the downtown business district in January 2023, police have made a second arrest. Michael G. Nichols, 40, of Griffith, Indiana, is being charged with felony armed robbery and was arrested Monday.
A petition for detention of Nichols was denied in court Thursday, and he was released. He is due back in court on March 1.
The arrest marks the second in the case, with the first coming in November of last year when Cornell E. Martinez, 27 at the time, of Chicago, was also charged with felony armed robbery.

On Jan. 25, 2023, police responded to Persin and Robbin Jewelry Store, 24 S. Dunton Ave., for a report of an armed robbery. Masked offenders reportedly entered the store armed with impact weapons, smashed multiple jewelry showcases and stole several high-end pieces of jewelry.
The responding officers conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene, in which they say they gathered "critical information." The investigation was turned over to Arlington Heights detectives and "significant leads developed sufficient evidence," according to police.

Police said evidence shows there were co-conspirators involved in the crime, and the case continues to be actively investigated.
