The woman, 78, was thrown from her SUV when her vehicle hit a Jeep while traveling along Route 83 on Thursday.

LONG GROVE, IL — A 78-year-old Arlington Heights woman was killed Thursday after she apparently lost control of her SUV and hit another vehicle while traveling in Long Grove, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. The woman was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from her vehicle, the sheriff's office said in a statement Friday.
According to authorities, deputies discovered the accident at around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, on Route 83, north of Route 22. A preliminary investigation determined that the Arlington Heights driver — who was not identified by the sheriff's office — was traveling north on the roadway when she lost control of her 2015 Subaru Outback.
After crossing the center median, the driver's SUV collided with a southbound 2004 Jeep Liberty, driven by a 62-year-old Vernon Township woman, the sheriff's office said. The Jeep's driver — who also wasn't identified by the sheriff's office — sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and she was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, authorities said.
