Film By Prospect High Grad Selected For Milwaukee Festival

The documentary centers on Allison Walsh's former teacher, John Camardella, and Prospect's long-running World Religions course.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A story that started inside a Prospect High School classroom is heading to the Milwaukee Film Festival this weekend.

"All of the Above," a documentary by 2012 Prospect High School graduate Allison Walsh, has been selected for screening at the festival on Friday and Saturday, according to Township High School District 214. The April 18 evening screening will take place in the festival's main theater, which seats about 1,000 attendees.

The documentary centers on Walsh's former teacher, John Camardella, and Prospect's long-running World Religions course. According to the district, the class helped shape Walsh's perspective as a student and later inspired her to return as a filmmaker.

Walsh, who also won the 2011 IHSA Class AA Girls Golf Individual State Championship while she was at Prospect, began documenting the course about seven years ago. After six years of filming and production, the completed documentary is now returning to the Midwest for a wider audience.

Camardella's work is described as extending beyond the classroom. It states that he teaches what is believed to be the nation's first dual-credit religious studies course at the high school level, holds a Master of Religion and Public Life from Harvard Divinity School, and has co-authored national standards for teaching religion in schools.

Camardella's expertise in religious and cultural literacy has also led him to train school leaders, organizations and even coaches within Major League Baseball. The film highlights the lasting impact of the educational experience, the evolving relationship between student and teacher, and the broader importance of understanding diverse perspectives, according to the district.
