The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the charges.

According to Arlington Heights police, officers responded at around 7 a.m. Thursday, to report of two people having been stabbed at an apartment building in the 200 block of N. Dunton Avenue. Upon arrival, police found the victims inside a sixth-floor apartment with similar stab wounds to the head and neck area. A family member of one of the victims had reportedly interrupted the attack before Engleman fled.

After police were able to establish the victim was no longer in the unit, paramedics from the Arlington Heights Fire Department began treating the victims. Both were taken to Northwest Hospital with injuries. One had sustained stab wounds to his ear and neck, while the other had multiple stab wounds to his head, neck and hands.

Officers searched and cleared the entire seven-story building. A blood trail was located in the building's stairwell and lobby, which police said suggested the suspect had fled the immediate area.

After reviewing available cameras in downtown Arlington Heights, Engleman was seen fleeing west along Northwest Highway. Detectives were able to quickly identify his location near Northwest Highway and Route 53.

According to police, patrol officers responding to the area were able to take Engleman into custody about one hour after the initial 911 call. A knife likely used during the stabbing was reportedly found in Engleman's pocket.
