Teen Who Was Attacked, Choked While Walking Home Helped By Good Samaritan: Cops

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Police are investigating an aggravated battery reported Sunday night near Lake Arlington.

The attack happened at around 11:15 p.m. in the area of Windsor Drive and Jonquil Circle, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.

A Good Samaritan driving on Windsor Drive called 911 after being flagged down by an 18-year-old woman who was distressed on the side of the road.

The woman told police she was walking home when she was approached by an unknown man riding a bicycle. The man asked, “What’s your name?” before grabbing the woman, pushing her to the ground and choking her, authorities said.

The woman was able to fight off the attack, flee and get the attention of a passing motorist, according to police, who said the man was last seen traveling southbound on Windsor Drive toward Palatine Road.

He was described as a black man, about 6 feet tall, with a muscular build, long braided hair and circular-framed glasses. He was wearing all black clothing.

The woman sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was reunited with her family.

The Arlington Heights Police Department said it is actively investigating the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or contact Arlington Heights police at 847-368-5300. Residents and businesses in the area are also being asked to review any surveillance footage that may have captured the incident or the offender.

Police said the attack appears to be isolated, but residents are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings and call 911 immediately if they see anything suspicious or feel unsafe.
