HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — Golfers and sponsors are invited to tee off for a cause this fall during the Herb Horn Memorial Golf Tournament benefiting the Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County.
The scramble-format outing is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Bridges of Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates.
The tournament was renamed this year remembering Herb Horn, a longtime CAC volunteer who served as a board member and past board president.
"This golf outing was his baby," Horn's widow, Bonnie Horn, said in a statement. "He would have loved it being named for him. He was so passionate about it since it was a fun way to bring people together and benefit CAC."
Proceeds from registrations, sponsorships and on-course purchases will support CAC's free services for children and families impacted by abuse and violence.
Since 1989, the organization said it has helped more than 20,000 children and non-offending family members.
CAC works with police, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, prosecutors and medical professionals through a multidisciplinary approach designed to reduce additional trauma for children reporting abuse.
The organization provides forensic interviews, family advocacy and specialized trauma therapy at no cost.
Individual registration for the tournament is $250, while foursomes registering together cost $900.

The tournament will also feature the return of the Launcher air cannon on Hole 8 and a "Cheating for Charity" package offering score-improving advantages.
"As Bonnie noted, Herb would have been so pleased to be remembered in this way," CAC board member and tournament sponsor Bob Bensdorf said. "I'm sure he will be watching over every stroke."

The Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County serves 38 suburbs and also accepts referrals from Chicago and the collar counties.
Its services are offered free in English and Spanish, with additional language assistance available.
