ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Pioneer Behavioral Health has opened its first Illinois location in Arlington Heights, expanding beyond Massachusetts for the first time.

The new program, at 1655 N. Arlington Heights Road, Suite 100E, provides structured outpatient mental health treatment for adults through partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs.

The Arlington Heights site is Pioneer's third location overall. The organization also operates programs in Longmeadow and Oxford, Massachusetts.

Joshua McPhail, Pioneer's program director, is leading the Illinois expansion. McPhail grew up in Illinois and has worked for more than a decade in mental health and substance-use treatment.

"Coming home to Illinois to open Pioneer's first program outside Massachusetts is personal for me," McPhail said.

"Too many people believe their only choices are a weekly therapy appointment or a hospital stay. Pioneer offers another path: a structured program where adults can do meaningful work, build real skills, and move forward with greater confidence and stability."

Two Levels Of Outpatient Care

The Arlington Heights program offers two levels of care: a full-day partial hospitalization program, commonly known as PHP, and a half-day intensive outpatient program, or IOP.

The facility will open with capacity for 40 participants.

Pioneer said the program treats adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, dissociative disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD and other mental health conditions.

Treatment plans can include therapy, psychiatric and medication support, case management and discharge planning.

The organization said its evidence-based treatment includes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma therapy and individual and group sessions.

Pioneer describes the program as voluntary and non-emergency outpatient care.

First Expansion Outside Massachusetts

Pioneer's Massachusetts programs have received The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval, and the organization said it is bringing the same clinical model to Arlington Heights.

Executive Director Jared Stanley, a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, veteran and person in long-term recovery, will remain involved with the launch of the Illinois location.

The company said the Arlington Heights facility was selected in part for its accessibility to communities across the northwest suburbs.
