HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — A 22-year-old Hoffman Estates man died Wednesday after being pulled from Lake Michigan near Belmont Harbor on Chicago's North Side.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Tirth J. Patel, of Hoffman Estates.
Chicago police said Patel was recovered from the water near Belmont Harbor at about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released information about how Patel entered the water or the circumstances leading up to his death.
Area Three detectives are conducting a death investigation.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office listed Patel's autopsy as pending.
His cause and manner of death also remained pending.
Because a cause of death has not been determined, Patch is not characterizing Patel's death as a drowning at this time.
Police have not announced any findings about what led to Patel being in the lake, and no additional circumstances surrounding his death have been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
