ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A man repeatedly stabbed an acquaintance and tried to hit the person with a car Saturday in Arlington Heights, police said.
Kendall Chesley, 25, of DeKalb, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to police.
Officers responded to the 300 block of North Salem Avenue after receiving a report of a stabbing, police said, noting that Chesley himself also contacted 911 and informed emergency personnel that he had stabbed someone.
Officers arrived to find the victim had been stabbed in the chest and hand, according to police, who said the person was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and remained in stable condition Sunday with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
In addition to the stabbing, Chesley had tried to strike the victim with a Honda Civic, which hit a nearby building, police said, adding Chesley had abandoned the car and fled on foot. After a search involving drone and K-9 units, he was found by Palatine officers in the area of Rand and Hintz roads and taken into custody, according to police.
Chesley's 911 call was made at about 1:50 p.m. and he was arrested roughly an hour later, the Daily Herald reported. The victim was a 30-year-old man from Arlington Heights, according to the newspaper.
Chesley was brought on Sunday to the Cook County courthouse in Chicago for a detention hearing, police said.
