ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A neighbor who always lends a hand, a teacher who inspires students or a volunteer who quietly puts in countless hours could be among the next Hearts of Gold honorees in Arlington Heights.
The village and its Special Events Commission are seeking community nominations for the 2027 Hearts of Gold Awards, which recognize people, groups and businesses making a positive impact on Arlington Heights.
Nominations are due Nov. 4, with recipients to be honored at a special luncheon Feb. 21, 2027.
The awards feature 11 categories covering contributions in mentorship, education, volunteerism, neighborhood involvement, community service and other areas. Nominees must live or work in Arlington Heights, and some categories have additional eligibility requirements.
In announcing the nomination period Tuesday, village officials encouraged community members to consider people whose contributions often happen behind the scenes.
Potential nominees could include young people making a difference, businesses that give back, educators, helpful neighbors and people who demonstrate exceptional community spirit, according to the village.
"Many deserving people make a difference behind the scenes, and their efforts may go unrecognized unless someone takes the time to share their story," the village said in its announcement.
Community members can review the award categories and submit a nomination on the village's website.
Those without someone to nominate can help by sharing the opportunity with friends, relatives, neighbors and colleagues, officials said.
