ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Former Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould has resigned as Saint Viator High School's head football coach to spend more time with his family, the school announced Wednesday.
The school described his departure as following the conclusion of the 2026 regular football season and said a search for the Lions' next head coach is already underway.
"We are grateful to Coach Gould for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to our student-athletes," Saint Viator President Ryan Aiello said in the announcement. "We appreciate his contributions to Saint Viator football, respect his decision to prioritize his family and wish him all the best."
Gould will continue supporting senior student-athletes with their college recruiting efforts and help with the leadership transition as needed, according to the school.
Saint Viator said its search will emphasize finding a coach who can strengthen the program, support player recruitment and development, and position the Lions for long-term success.
"Our commitment to Saint Viator football extends beyond any one coach," Athletic Director Nick Sobieszczyk said. "We are investing in the future of this program, and our student-athletes will remain our top priority. We are focused on finding the right leader to guide the next chapter of Saint Viator football."
From Rolling Meadows To Saint Viator
Saint Viator hired Gould in December 2024, shortly after he resigned from the same position at Rolling Meadows High School. He led the Mustangs to a 5-5 record during his one season there, as Patch previously reported.
At the time of his Saint Viator hiring, Gould emphasized creating a family atmosphere and developing a program built around players supporting one another.
The private Catholic school said Wednesday it remains committed to a competitive football program that develops students on and off the field and fosters a positive team culture.
Bears' Record-Setting Kicker
Gould played for the Bears from 2005 through 2015, becoming the franchise's all-time leading scorer during his final season in Chicago. He earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl recognition in 2006.
The Bears released Gould in September 2016 after 11 seasons. He finished his Chicago tenure with 1,207 points and 276 field goals, as Patch reported at the time.
Saint Viator said it will provide updates as the coaching search progresses.
