ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL — A walk through Busse Woods will bring families together Sunday for Halloween fun while supporting children and families facing pediatric cancer.
Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation will host its annual Walk for the Bear on Oct. 25 at Grove 5 in Elk Grove Village. Participants can choose a one- or two-mile route, with trick-or-treating along the way.
The event will also feature costumes, face painting, pumpkin decorating, a bounce house and hands-on activities from Kohl Children's Museum.
Registration and check-in will open at 9 a.m., followed by a welcome and brief presentation at 9:45 a.m. The walk will begin at 10 a.m., with lunch and family activities scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Registration costs $25. Pediatric cancer patients and survivors can participate at no cost, and on-site registration will be available Sunday morning.
The walk raises awareness and support for the foundation's programs, which include personalized experiences known as Bear Hugs, counseling, scholarships and practical assistance. Those services are provided at no cost to families, according to the organization.
Children and families affected by pediatric cancer, survivors, volunteers, donors and community partners are expected to participate.
Grove 5 is near Arlington Heights and Higgins roads, with an entrance accessible from Higgins Road.
