Apartment Complex Shooting: Man In Critical Condition

The Monday night incident occurred at the same location as a recent arson fire.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A man is in critical condition following a Monday night shooting at a large multi-unit apartment building. Police believe the victim was specifically targeted and the incident remains isolated.

Police responded to the Stonebridge Apartments, 400 block of W. Rand Road, at around 7:25 p.m. following a call of gunshots fired on the fourth floor of the building. They found the victim in the lobby of the building with gunshot wounds to his leg and lower torso. Police initiated life-saving measures, including application of a tourniquet to the victim, and were assisted by fire department personnel.

The man was taken to a Level 1 Trauma Center for medical care. He remains in critical condition.

The location of the shooting is the same as a recent fire, believed to be started by an 80-year-old resident, who was charged with felony aggravated arson.

Following Monday night's incident, police conducted a thorough search of the building and surrounding area for any additional victims or other involved persons of interest. Detectives and forensic technicians are continuing the ongoing investigation.
