Applicants Sought For Arlington Heights Library Board Vacancy  

Trustee Debbie Smart recently announced that she will retire from her board duties and is resigning Sept. 21.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — With the upcoming retirement of Trustee Debbie Smart, the Arlington Heights Memorial Library Board of Trustees will soon have an opening. At Tuesday's Committee of the Whole meeting, Smart announced she is resigning from the board effective Sept. 21, according to a news release.

The vacancy will be filled by appointment by the board. The appointed trustee will serve until a new board is seated in May 2023, following the consolidated election on April 4 next year.

Any resident of Arlington Heights interested in being considered for the position should submit a letter of interest with their qualifications and intent to be on the ballot for the open trustee position in the April election, by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.

According to the release, three finalists for the trustee vacancy will be selected in closed session at the Sept. 20 library board meeting. Interviews of the finalists will be conducted in closed session at the library during the board’s Oct. 3 meeting, with a vote on naming the new trustee planned for the Oct. 25 meeting.

Applicants may submit materials via email to boardvacancy@ahml.info or in person at the library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights. Materials should be addressed to the Administrative Office and may be dropped off at any service desk or the drive-up window.
