Arlington Heights Agrees to $90,500 Share of Joint Bike Path With Rolling Meadows

The half-mile path will run along the north side of Euclid Avenue, near the Arlington Downs development.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Trustees approved last week the village's end of a joint bicycle path with Rolling Meadows that will run along Euclid Avenue near the Arlington Downs development, the Daily Herald reports.

The Village Board unanimously passed Jan. 17 a cost-sharing resolution to spend $90,500 to build the path, the report stated. A week earlier, Rolling Meadows' city council approved its share of the path, and the city will use a $691,260 federal grant it obtained in 2014 to fund most of the project, the report added.

Arlington Heights and Rolling Meadows already have invested a little more than $5,500 in preliminary engineering costs for the half-mile path, according to the report.

The new path will run along the north of Euclid Avenue, between Salt Creek Lane in Arlington Heights and Rohlwing Road in Rolling Meadows, the report stated. Its addition is seen as another hook for the proposed Arlington Downs mixed-use development, which will feature luxury apartments, stores and restaurants, the report added.

Terms of Rolling Meadows' federal grant require the project to start by the fall, and construction is scheduled to begin in October, with a July of 2018 end date, the Herald reports.
