Arlington Heights Changes Tune on Starbucks Liquor License
The Village Board gave an initial OK Monday to a new category of license that would apply to coffee shops.

Arlington Heights, IL—The Arlington Heights Village Board is reconsidering its earlier stance against creating a liquor license that would cover Starbucks and coffee shops like it.
The board gave initial approval Monday for the new license during its committee of the whole meeting, the Daily Herald reports. The license would only apply to coffee shops and would not allow businesses, such as microbreweries or wine cafes, the report stated.

The reason for the category stems from Starbucks' request for a license January for its location at 1802 N. Arlington Heights Road. The license would allow the chain to serve beer and wine as part of its new Evenings menu program, the report added.
The change of heart comes after village officials looked at liquor codes in surrounding communities and found that Arlington Heights had some of the most restrictive.
