Arlington Heights Leans Toward Banning Adult Use Pot Sales
Arlington Heights took an informal vote Monday with six in favor of banning marijuana sales in town.
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The village of Arlington Heights is leaning toward banning the sale of marijuana for recreational use once it becomes legal in the New Year. During a Committee of a Whole meeting Monday, six out of nine trustees said they would favor prohibiting marijuana sales in the village.
Arlington Heights Mayor Thomas Hayes said he did not agree with the state's decision to allow adult use of marijuana. While municipalities can not prohibit the use or possession of adult use cannabis, they can decide not to sell it in town.
"I believe with all my heart that allowing the sale of recreational marijuana in Arlington Heights would be the wrong thing to do and would not enhance the quality of life, and in fact, would diminish the quality of life in Arlington Heights and the reputation that this village has earned for many, many decades now," Arlington Heights Mayor Thomas Hayes said.
