Arlington Heights Motorcyclist Killed In Car Collision: Mt Prospect PD

The 51-year-old was attempting to make a turn when the collision occurred, according to police.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Police have released the identity of the motorcyclist killed in a Sunday evening collision with a car. Przemyslaw Sztafa, 51, of Arlington Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the intersection of Algonquin Road (Route 62) and Dearborn Court in Mount Prospect.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, Sztafa's cause of death is pending the result of an autopsy.

Police arrived at the scene of the crash at 5:33 p.m. and found a damaged and unoccupied motorcycle in the intersection, while firefighters were tending to Sztafa, who had already succumbed to his injuries.

A preliminary investigation has revealed Sztafa was traveling on the motorcycle, wearing the motorcycle helmet, and traveling westbound in the curb lane. Police said the motorcycle collided with the passenger side of a gray Mercedes sedan, driven by a 63-year-old Mount Prospect man, who was turning left onto Dearborn Court from eastbound Algonquin Road. The car driver was not injured as a result of the crash.

The crash occurred near another recent fatal motorcycle crash earlier this month.Daniel Vazquez, 18, of Mundelein, was killed June 4 when a motorcycle he was driving collided with a pickup truck on Algonquin Road at Briarwood Drive.

Police said the crash is currently being investigated by the Mount Prospect Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team, along with the assistance from the Major Case Assistance Team’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.

Algonquin Road was closed between Dearborn Court and Goebbert Road and reopened at approximately 11:45 p.m., according to police.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing. Mount Prospect police request anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any additional information to contact the department's Major Crash Investigation Team at 847-818-5301.
