Officer Michael McEvoy is on the mend after December 2013 shooting.
Arlington Heights officer Michael McEvoy, shot in the face while responding to a man-with-a-gun call in December 2013, was honored as "Officer of the Year" Thursday. McEvoy has been with the department for 24 years.
His chief commended his "courageous" actions that night.
The officers who pulled him to safety after he was shot were identified publicly for the first time: Kevin Sullivan, Michael Turano and Douglas Glanz. They also are being honored for their bravery.
Police shot and killed the gunman, Eric Anderson, 41, of Niles, who barricaded himself inside his ex-girlfriend's mother's house.
