ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Adangelo Roura, a student at John Hersey High School, was recently awarded the NSHSS-DECA Scholarship by the National Society of High School Scholars. The scholarship is awarded to high school juniors and seniors who are DECA members and who intend to pursue a college major in marketing, finance, hospitality, or business.

Scholarship winners attending the DECA ICDC Conference in Atlanta will be recognized for their achievement on stage. Roura was one of three students to each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Roura’s involvement with DECA, according to NSHSS, has given him an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of various business concepts and to become immersed in the industry, igniting a passion for entrepreneurship. At first, he was unsure of the path he planned to take, but being able to participate in realistic role plays has allowed him to experience how rewarding business can be. Through the program, he has been provided with a strong network of like-minded peers who have served as an inspiration and motivation to push himself further.

“I plan to gain valuable experience through seeking mentorships, internships, and chances to study abroad,” Roura said. “I believe that the best way to make my business dreams into a reality is to be open-minded and eager to learn from others. I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped me into who I am today and appreciative of the support and guidance that I have received along the way - my hope is that no matter where life takes me, I will be fortunate to pay it forward, make a positive difference and leave a lasting legacy.”
