John Scaletta, first elected in 2007, said he wants "to focus on and spend more time with my family."

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — John Scaletta, the longest serving trustee on the Arlington Heights Village Board, will not be seeking re-election next spring. Scaletta, a trustee since 2007, made the announcement Thursday in a news release.

"I am honored to have served with many thoughtful colleagues on the Village Board and have had the privilege of working with a dedicated Village staff of over 400 employees who come to work every day to provide superior service to the residents of the Village of Arlington Heights," Scaletta said.
Among his proudest accomplishments, Scaletta pointed to helping the Village Board be fiscally responsible by adopting balanced budgets every year of his tenure and a 0 percent real estate tax levy increase the last three years.

Scaletta also said he encouraged new business and real estate developments, improved green initiatives, expanded water main replacement and street paving programs, championed the creation of Arlington Alfresco, and initiated a flood control study, ultimately implementing a phased mitigation program to address neighborhood flooding, among others.
In 2009, Scaletta was appointed by then Mayor Arlene Mulder to the village's building code review board, where he said he "worked diligently with BCRB to recommend the adoption of updated international building codes."
In 2014, Scaletta was appointed by Mayor Thomas Hayes to the Metropolis Oversight Committee and said he "diligently worked together on streamlining the processes to regain the confidence of the Village Board."
In 2019, Scaletta was appointed by Hayes to the board of directors of Meet Chicago Northwest, the tourism bureau for eight northwest suburban communities. He currently serves on the executive committee for MCNW.
"I am truly humbled by the support voters extended to me and am grateful for their confidence in me over the years," Scaletta said. "There are many opportunities to serve this great community and I am committed to staying involved."
