Arrest Made In 2005 Cold Case Murder: Elk Grove Village Police

The 63-year-old suspect was located In Mexico and extradited back to the United States.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL — An arrest has been made in a decades old cold case murder case. Juvenal Salto, 63, formerly of Elk Grove Village, is being charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The murder occurred on Jan. 28, 2005, in the 2000 block of Busse Road.

According to police, evidence indicated Salto was involved in the homicide and an arrest warrant was issued in 2005. Police believed Salto fled to Mexico, with investigators continuing to work the case and developing new leads in the ensuing years.

Salto was taken into custody and extradited back to the United States, where Elk Grove Village police took custody of him after his arrival. Salto remains in the Cook County Jail and is due back in court on March 15.

The Elk Grove Police Department thanked numerous agencies which assisted in the investigation, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Major Case Assistance Team, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Chicago Police Department.
