Bicyclist Killed In Arlington Heights Crash At Lake Cook Road

The 45-year-old Arlington Heights resident was pronounced dead at Lutheran General Hospital following Thursday morning's car crash.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A resident was killed Thursday following a multiple vehicle crash that shut down Lake Cook Road between Route 53 and Wilke Road for nearly 10 hours. Sylwia Wagner Jarosz, 45, of Arlington Heights, died at Lutheran General Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Following the accident, which occurred at around 7:20 a.m., Jarosz was rushed to the Park Ridge hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police. She was pronounced dead at 12:58 p.m.

Police shut down the area where the crash happened until around 4:43 p.m. for an investigation.

When first responders arrived, they found two vehicles on the southeast quadrant of the intersection, according to a news release. A subsequent investigation revealed that one of the vehicles, a red 2011 Ford F550 landscaping truck with a trailer, mounted the curb as the result of impact with a second vehicle and struck Jarosz, who was waiting to cross Lake Cook Road. The second vehicle was a white 2019 Chevrolet Equinox.

The driver of the truck and his passenger were uninjured. The driver of the second vehicle was taken by Palatine Fire Department paramedics to Northwest Community Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, where she remains at the time of the news release.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Department and Buffalo Grove Police Department assisted Arlington Heights police with the diversion of traffic around the crash scene.
