Call 911 If You Get Unrequested Unemployment Debit Card: Police

The Arlington Heights Police Department is warning residents of the latest scam.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Police are advising residents to steer clear of unrequested debit cards from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The Arlington Heights Police Department said Wednesday it has received a number of calls from residents regarding the matter. Police are asking those that may have received them to call 911 to file a report.

IDES is the department of state government that administers state-sanctioned unemployment benefits. For these debit cards to be mailed, a claim was filed with the state for the collection of unemployment benefits, according to police. Presumably, the residents who received these cards have had their personal information compromised and used for the future collection of unemployment benefits.
