Fast Facts: Two teams who are evenly matched and in need of quality wins before the postseason pairings are announced face off in this one. Fenwick is in the second season of the Rick Malnati era as head coach. The successful former New Trier coach was an assistant at Loyola University for two years before arriving in Oak Park and leading the Friars to the sectional finals last year. On the court, Smith leads the way for the young but talented Friars. Ballard stretches the defense with his three-point shooting, opening up room for Nixon down low. McNamara is the leading scorer for the veteran Lions, averaging 15.9 points per game and also swiping a steal a game. The 6-foot-6 Canella controls the paint, leading the team in rebounding with 83 boards in 15 games and placing second in scoring. The rest of the starters and top bench guys are all pretty similar in scoring for St. Viator. Ball movement is key for the Lions, and it’s not just McNamara. St. Viator has five players with at least 29 assists. That has helped the Lions shoot 34 percent as a team from three-point range. McNamara, Monson and Muench are the leading three-point shooters for St. Viator.
