Crash Traps Sedan Under Semi-Truck: Elk Grove Village PD

A 73-year-old Elk Grove resident was extricated from his car Wednesday night and taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL — A sedan driven by a 73-year-old Elk Grove Village man got trapped under a semi-truck following an accident Wednesday night. The resident, who had to be extricated from the car, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with serious injuries.

Devon Avenue, between Ridge Avenue and Carlisle Avenue, was closed until 1:30 a.m. Thursday, so accident investigators could search for and collect vehicle and roadway evidence.

The Elk Grove Village police and fire departments responded to the 200 block of East Devon Avenue at around 7:44 p.m. for a report of a car accident. The accident involved a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by the Elk Grove Village resident, and a 2024 Freightliner truck-tractor and trailer, driven by a 65-year-old woman from Arkansas.

According to police, the Freightliner exited the parking lot of 202 E Devon Avenue southbound and turned eastbound onto Devon Avenue. The Chevrolet was traveling westbound Devon Avenue from Ridge Avenue when it struck the rear driver's side of the trailer. Witnesses confirmed the actions of both drivers.

The driver of the Freightliner truck-tractor reported no injuries and was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield while turning left.
