MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A witness to a Sunday night car crash was shot in the leg by one of the parties involved shortly after he saw them driving recklessly in Des Plaines. The male victim was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

At 10:46 p.m., police responded to a Shell Gas Station at 1200 River Road, Mount Prospect, for a report of a person with a gunshot wound. Police learned that prior to being shot, the victim had been following two vehicles driving recklessly in the area of River Road and Golf Road in Des Plaines.

The victim said he was in the process of calling 911 when one of the vehicles, a gray Kia hatchback, lost control and crashed near the intersection of Camp McDonald Road and Mandel Lane. Two males wearing all black clothing "bailed out" of the crashed car and got into the second vehicle, a gray Kia SUV.
