CTA Stabbing: Arlington Heights Man Charged With Attempted Murder

CHICAGO — An Arlington Heights man is in custody after being accused of felony first-degree attempted murder, among other charges, stemming from an incident Sunday on a CTA train platform in the Loop. Albert Burage, 39, of the 2100 block of South Tonne Drive, was placed in police custody moments after the attacks at the platform in the 300 block of South Dearborn.

Burage is accused of pulling a 44-year-old CTA employee off the train and onto the platform at around 5:45 p.m., where he stabbed him multiple times with a knife, according to police. He then grabbed a blunt object nearby and struck a Chicago police officer in the back, police said.

Burage was arrested and charged with three felony counts: first-degree attempted murder; aggravated battery of a peace officer; aggravated battery of a transit employee.

The CTA employee was taken to Northwestern Hospital and was listed in fair condition Sunday night, according to police. WFLD is reporting the employee is currently recovering at home after suffering stab wounds to the head, arm and back. The officer was also taken to a nearby hospital and is ok, according to WFLD.

Burage was taken to Stroger Hospital with injuries, and was listed in stable condition Sunday night. He is due in bond court Tuesday.
