Dog-Walker Dropped Gun Outside Arlington Heights School

"There was no malice," police said of the incident.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — No charges were filed after a neighbor found a gun outside an Arlington Heights elementary school this week. Police said the gun owner has come forward, saying he dropped the firearm by accident as he was walking his dog Sunday morning near Ivy Hill Elementary, 2211 N. Burke Drive.

The gun was turned into police after a neighbor found it near the main entrance of the school, according to the Daily Herald.

Police said the 57-year-old gun owner realized it was missing and retraced his steps, but the weapon had already been found and turned in to police. "It does seem like it was accidental and there was no malice," Cmdr. Nathan Hayes said of the man, who had a valid firearm owners identification card and concealed carry permit.
