The Douglas Center Invites You to Lincolnwood's Recycling Event

Bring Your Gently Worn Shoes: Saturday, August 8 | 9:00 AM – Noon

SKOKIE, IL — The Douglas Center is excited to participate in the Lincolnwood SWANCC Recycling Event on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as our Community Shoe Drive continues to bring people together in support of adults with disabilities.

Residents of participating SWANCC communities will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference while recycling gently worn shoes at the Village of Lincolnwood Recycling Event.

Location:7001 N. Lawndale Avenue,Large parking lot south of Public Works, (Corner of Lunt and Lawndale Avenues)

The Douglas Center will be collecting gently worn, used, and new shoes as part of its Community Shoe Drive. Every donated pair supports The Douglas Center's programs and services for adults with intellectual, developmental, physical, and mental disabilities while creating a ripple effect of impact far beyond our local community.

Bring Your Gently Worn Shoes. Your shoe donations help:

  • Support programs and services for adults with intellectual, developmental, physical, and mental disabilities at The Douglas Center
  • Create opportunity in underserved communities globally
  • Keep usable shoes out of landfills

Donation Guidelines:

✔ Pairs only

✔ Gently worn, used, or new

✔ No tears or holes

All styles are welcome—including athletic shoes, dress shoes, boots, sandals, work shoes, and children's shoes.

"Something as simple as a pair of shoes can create opportunity in remarkable ways," said Rifath Khan, CEO of The Douglas Center. "Each donation helps support the individuals we proudly serve while extending hope and opportunity to communities around the world. We're grateful to the Village of Lincolnwood for providing another opportunity for our community to come together and make a difference."

The recycling event is open to residents of SWANCC member communities. Please bring a photo ID or proof of residency.

Participating communities include:

Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Evanston, Glencoe, Glenview, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Mount Prospect, Niles, Palatine, Park Ridge, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows, Skokie, South Barrington, Wheeling, Wilmette, and Winnetka.

Those unable to attend the event can still participate in The Douglas Center's Community Shoe Drive through August 31 by donating at The Douglas Center or one of several community collection locations.
