Driver Charged In Crash That Killed 89-Year-Old Palatine Woman: Police

BARRINGTON, IL — A Deer Park man is facing a felony charge of reckless homicide after a 90-year-old Palatine woman died from her injuries sustained in a March car crash. Abraham N. Katz, 37, of the 21000 block of W. Field Court, was scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a detention hearing, according to the Barrington Police Department.

Lois J. Larson died on May 24, nearly two months following the crash.

At around 12:13 p.m. March 30, Barrington police responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of South Barrington and Dundee roads.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Larson was traveling southbound on South Barrington Road and entered the left-turn lane at the intersection with Dundee Road. At the same time, Katz was traveling northbound on South Barrington Road approaching the same intersection. As Larson initiated a left turn, Katz's vehicle struck her vehicle's passenger side.

Both drivers were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with injuries. Due to the severity of Larson's injuries, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was activated to assist in
the investigation.

Following a thorough investigation and analysis of evidence recovered from the vehicles involved, and due to the high rate of speed Katz was traveling, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the felony charge.
