ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — One driver was killed, while another remains hospitalized following an early Saturday morning crash at the intersection of Arlington Heights and Golf roads. A 52-year-old Mount Prospect resident was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The driver of the other vehicle— a 24-year-old Des Plaines man — was taken to an area hospital with injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 2015 Nissan Sentra, was injured and taken to Northwest Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police said the man remains admitted at the hospital.

Based on preliminary information gained from at-scene witnesses, along with physical evidence, police believe the driver of the Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Arlington Heights Road at Golf Road, passing through the intersection on a green traffic signal when the driver of the Nissan Sentra disobeyed the westbound traffic signal, passed through a red light and struck the Honda. Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

The Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team, part of the suburban Major Case Assistance Team, responded to the crash and assisted police.
