Duo Carjacks Resident's SUV With Gun In Mount Prospect: Police

The woman had just pulled into her driveway when approached by one of the men, who pointed a gun at her while demanding her purse and keys.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A Mount Prospect woman was approached by a man, who pointed a handgun at her and demanded her purse and car keys, before stealing her SUV during a Saturday night incident. Police said the aggravated vehicular hijacking incident, which also involved another man, occurred at around 11:02 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Burning Bush Lane.

The woman was not injured during the incident.

A preliminary investigation revealed the woman was approached by a man she did not know as she exited her vehicle, parked in her driveway. The man pointed a black colored handgun at the woman and demanded her purse and car keys, which she gave to the man. The woman then ran inside her home and called 911 to report the incident, according to police.

The woman said there was a gray SUV parked in front of her house, and a second man was standing near the rear of her vehicle at the time. The woman’s vehicle, a white colored Hyundai Santa Fe was seen driving through the front lawn of the home and away from the scene, northbound on Burning Bush Lane. Video surveillance from a nearby residence showed the woman’s Hyundai and the gray SUV travelling eastbound on Seminole Lane away from the scene.

Police said the men should be considered armed and dangerous, and not be approached.

The man holding the shotgun is described as Black, approximately 5-foot-5, 175 pounds, wearing a black and white colored hooded sweatshirt and black pants. The second man is described as wearing an unknown colored hooded sweatshirt. The stolen vehicle is a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe bearing Illinois registration ZU39486.
