Elk Grove Township Approves Steps to Explore Consolidation of Operations

The board voted to hire a commercial real estate firm to conduct a market analysis, needs assessment for current and future facilities.

The Elk Grove Township Board approved the potential sale of property located at 401 W. Golf Road in Mount Prospect at its Monday, May 23 meeting. The sale would depend on the outcome of final negotiations, and ultimate approval from Township voters.

Youth and family counseling programs through the Township are currently housed in the building. Elk Grove Township Supervisor Mike Sweeney said whatever the outcome, there will be no disruption to youth services, which include the Challenge Group, Social Skills Group, Girl Power and others.

A contract with commercial real estate firm, the SC Group was also approved by the board. The firm will conduct a needs assessment and market analysis on all Township owned properties to evaluate current and future facility needs, as well as represent the Township in all real estate transactions. The contract includes a $20,000 retainer against commissions on any future real estate transactions, and will be paid over a five month period.

“Our overall goal is to strategically investigate options to consolidate all of our operations under one roof; to ensure the Township is being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars,” Sweeney said.

Elk Grove Township owns two additional properties, including its headquarters at 2400 S. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, and a former school building at 711 Chelmsford Lane in Elk Grove Village. A non-profit independently runs the daycare and leases the building from the Township.

Sweeney said if the daycare building is sold, he will work with the executive director to help find a new location, as well as partner to develop a voucher program to give parents more flexibility regarding daycare options.

If the needs assessment determines a new Township building is necessary and voters approve it, benefits for the Township would include the addition of properties back onto the tax rolls, as well as allowing officials to continue to freeze the Elk Grove Township levy.
