Employee Hears Screwdriver Break-In Attempt At Store: Des Plaines PD

A Des Plaines man was charged with felony burglary following the Saturday incident.

DES PLAINES, IL — A Des Plaines man is facing a felony burglary charge following an incident Saturday at a business in the 1100 block of S. Elmhurst Road. Martin Tracz, 43, of the 100 block of Holiday Lane, is accused of felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal damage to property, and was arrested Sunday.

Following a detention hearing, Tracz was released.

On Saturday, police were called to the 1100 block of Elmhurst Road for a burglary in progress. An employee inside the store had heard scraping sounds coming from the wood panels on the doors and windows of the business. They opened the front door to investigate the sound when they saw a man with a screwdriver attempting to break in. The employee recognized Tracz from a previous incident at the store.

Police said multiple attempts were made to locate Tracz, but all were unsuccessful. Tracz was eventually identified in a photo line-up. On Sunday, police were looking for Tracz around Holiday Lane and Elmhurst Road when they saw him walking toward the rear of a building in the 1000 block of Elmhurst. He was taken into custody and the charges were approved by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
