Family Of Motorcyclist Killed In Des Plaines Sets Up Fundraiser

DES PLAINES, IL — The mother-in-law of a Des Plaines man killed last Saturday when his motorcycle was struck by a car has started a GoFundMe "to help with immediate and unexpected expenses during this difficult time." John E. Lawson, 60, was driving his 2020 Honda motorcycle when the incident occurred.
Lawson was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

According to the GoFundMe page, Carole Sheppard is hoping to raise $10,000. As of Friday morning, the campaign, which started Thursday, has raised over $4,000. Sheppard says any donation for her daughter, Beth Lawson, and family, is appreciated.
"John was a kind and loving man. If you knew him, you loved him," Sheppard said. "I am organizing this fundraiser to help with immediate and unexpected expenses during this difficult time."

A police investigation has revealed Lawson was turning left onto westbound Golf Road from northwest Rand Road when he was struck by a 2013 Kia Optima, driven by a male juvenile, at around 9:30 p.m. The juvenile was traveling southeast on Rand Road at the time of the collision.
The driver and two passengers of the Kia were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Lawson was pronounced dead at 10:21 p.m. due to multiple injuries, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
