Father-In-Law Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Ohio Woman Outside Hotel: Schaumburg PD
Police said the Illinois man was upset the woman was divorcing his son when the incident outside a Marriott hotel happened Friday night.

SCHAUMBURG, IL — The father-in-law of an Ohio woman has been charged with first-degree murder after he fatally shot her Friday night outside a Marriott hotel. Roland Schmidt, 76, of Stillman Valley, Illinois, was arrested soon after the incident after being subdued on the ground by a citizen and turned over to police, officials said.
Christine Moyer, 45, of Galena, Ohio, sustained a gunshot to the head and later died from her injuries after being taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

According to police, the two were guests of a wedding being held at the hotel at 50 N. Martingale Road. Moyer was leaving the event at around 10:15 p.m., and Schmidt reportedly followed her outside to the parking lot. He approached her and shot her in the head, according to police. A firearm was discovered at the scene.
During the subsequent investigation, police say investigators discovered Schmidt was upset with Moyer over divorce paperwork that had been filed against his son.

Schmidt remains in the Cook County Jail and is due in court Monday to face the felony charge, which was approved by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
