Halloween 2022: Arlington Heights Recommends Trick-Or-Treat Hours
Downtown businesses have announced that they will participate in trick-or-treating this year from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Halloween falls on Monday this year, so you still have time this weekend to stock up on candy if you haven't. In Arlington Heights, the Village recommends residents limiting trick-or-treating to between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
Before the official holiday, the Arlington Heights Park District is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat event from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with three different 45 minute timeframes available for registration. The event will be held outdoors at Melas Park in the Bosch Parking Lot, 1500 W Central Road.
The Halloween weather forecast for Arlington Heights looks fairly good, according to Accuweather. The high for Monday is 61 degrees, with a low of 44 degrees. There is a 25 percent chance of rain. The Village does not intend on moving trick-or-treating hours due to bad weather conditions due to the following reasons:

- The Village cannot prohibit children from trick-or-treating on Halloween night. If the date was changed, it is highly likely that many children will still trick-or-treat on Oct. 31. An alternate date will create additional time and candy burdens for homeowners.
- The Village has publicly recommended trick-or-treating hours from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., to encourage safety. However, there is no official policy or ordinance in place with designated or enforceable hours, beyond recommended guidance. Therefore, the Village does not have official regulatory control to enforce changes to the date on which Halloween is recognized through the cultural practice of trick-or-treating.
- Drivers on Halloween night generally anticipate trick-or-treaters. Not all drivers on a different day would be aware of the rescheduled trick-or-treating hours and may not anticipate children, creating an unnecessary risk.
Downtown businesses have announced that they will participate in trick-or-treating this year, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Businesses will have the option to participate on a voluntary basis, according to the Village website. Participating businesses are encouraged to post signage indicating their participation.
