Holiday Remembrance Community Tradition at Glueckert Funeral Home

Arlington Heights Family-Owned Business Eases Season for Those Who Have Lost Loved Ones

Holidays can be difficult when you’ve lost a loved one. Glueckert Funeral Home’s annual Holiday Luminary Remembrance Service helps make the yearly “season of joy” a little less painful for those who are grieving. Saturday, December 7, 2019, marks the Arlington Heights family-owned funeral home’s 10th annual holiday commemoration of those who have passed away.

“This is a difficult time of the year for a lot of people for a lot of reasons,” explained Michael Murschel, Spiritual Director. “Grief is an overarching shadow. These are profoundly spiritually rich moments in people’s lives, and to not acknowledge that is to shut down certain parts of how we function as human beings, and that can isolate us and make life more difficult.”

That is why Glueckert, with nearly 50 years of serving people in their time of grief, offers this gift to the community.

Sisters Samantha and Nicolette Mayer sang at last year’s memorial.

“The energy that we felt in the room afterward was a feeling of warmth and connection between everyone,” shared Samantha.

Nicole added that she observed people who, “Definitely got their spirits lifted. They knew that they weren’t alone.”

The annual memorial celebration draws people from around the region and includes a candle lighting, music, reflection, and a remembrance video. Refreshments are served afterward.

Jackie Glueckert points out that this celebration is for the entire community, not just people served by Glueckert Funeral Home. She invites friends or family members to submit a photo of their lost loved one by December 2. “As a gift to you, we’ll make up a keepsake photo ornament and include your loved one in our video as part of the holiday remembrance.”

She shared how people often “come back year after year,” noting that, “It’s the dynamic of the whole community coming together to share in this holiday remembrance service…they find comfort being around others coping with the same sense of loss.”

Every year, the service is videotaped and posted online at GlueckertFuneralHome.com and Facebook @GlueckertFuneralHome. Glueckert describes the number of views they receive as “overwhelming.”
