Library Board To Vote On Borrell Appointment In Arlington Heights
The recent retirement and resignation of Trustee Debbie Smart created a vacancy.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The Arlington Heights Memorial Library Board of Trustees may soon have a new Trustee. Following the retirement and resignation of Trustee Debbie Smart last month, a vacant spot was created on the board.
The board will vote to appoint Jennifer Borrell to the position at its Oct. 25 meeting, according to a news release.
Borrell works for Etsy as a Senior Taxonomist and has been a volunteer on the board of the Friends of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library since 2018. She holds a master’s degree in library science from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her volunteer experience also includes work with St. John United Church of Christ, Windsor Elementary PTA, RefugeeOne, the Village of Arlington Heights Youth Commission and the League of Women Voters, according to the news release.

The vacancy was announced at the Sept. 6 Committee of the Whole meeting. The appointed trustee will serve the remainder of Smart’s term until the new board is seated in May 2023, following the consolidated election on April 4, 2023.
The board fielded nine applicants who met the Sept. 16 deadline to submit a letter of interest with their qualifications and intent to be on the ballot for the open trustee position in the April election. Officials said the board selected four finalists for the vacancy at the Sept. 20 meeting and conducted interviews at the Oct. 3 meeting.
