Main Street Opera presents Gian Carlo Menotti's "THE CONSUL"

A timely story of one woman's struggle to flee a violent police state and immigrate. Powerful arias! Great opera brought to your town!

Main Street Opera is proud to present Gian Carlo Menotti’s “THE CONSUL”!

One of the great American operas of the 20th century, this Pulitzer Prize-winning drama wowed Broadway audiences during its initial run with its haunting melodies and powerful arias. Inspired by real-life events, Menotti spins a tragic tale of one woman’s struggle to flee a violent police state. Performed today as we face a global refugee crisis, THE CONSUL is as timely and heartbreaking in 2016 as it was at the height of the Cold War.
